What you need

  • Your passport

    With the entry stamp you got when you arrived in Costa Rica.

  • Your driver’s license

    A valid license from your country works for up to 90 days from your entry stamp. No international permit needed.

  • Deposit and driver age

    Gonzalo confirms the deposit and the minimum driver age with your quote.

Do I need a 4x4?

Not for the main routes: the roads to La Fortuna, Jacó, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo, and Puerto Viejo are paved. A 4x4 helps on dirt roads, like the ones around Santa Teresa, Nosara, or the Osa Peninsula, especially in the rainy season (May to November).

  • Waze works well here, and locals use it too.
  • Plan to arrive before dark: the sun sets around 5:30–6 p.m. all year.
  • Tell Gonzalo your route and he’ll tell you which car fits it best.

Questions before renting

Do I need an International Driving Permit?
No. Your valid driver’s license from home is enough for up to 90 days from the entry stamp in your passport. Carry both while you drive.
How do I book? Do I pay online?
Send the form above on WhatsApp. Gonzalo confirms availability and the total price there, and you agree on the details with him. Nothing is paid on this website.
Which car should I choose?
The sedan is the best value for two. The SUV gives you more room and clearance for long drives, and the minibus fits groups of up to 14. If you’re not sure, tell Gonzalo your route.
Can I also book a transfer?
Yes. Gonzalo also drives travelers in private transfers, for example from the airport to your first hotel. You can plan it in the Trip Planner.
